Bitcoin Gains 26% Since SpaceX Debut as Anthropic IPO Expectations Build

Bitcoin has gained about 26% since SpaceX made its market debut in June, a performance that is drawing renewed attention as investors assess the possible effect of an eventual Anthropic initial public offering on digital assets.

The comparison is becoming relevant because both companies represent a category of highly valued technology businesses whose public-market arrivals can influence investor sentiment well beyond their own shares. Anthropic’s potential IPO is therefore being watched not only by technology investors but also by crypto traders trying to determine whether another major listing could redirect capital, reinforce enthusiasm for risk assets or create additional volatility.

The rise in bitcoin since SpaceX’s debut has not been a straight-line advance. The cryptocurrency has faced a recent downturn, while broader financial conditions have become less supportive. Higher funding costs, changing expectations around monetary policy and shifts in appetite for speculative investments can all affect bitcoin at the same time that individual corporate events generate headlines.

That backdrop makes it difficult to attribute bitcoin’s performance to any single IPO. The 26% increase since June reflects the combined effect of market liquidity, investor positioning, macroeconomic expectations and developments within the digital-asset sector. A high-profile listing may become an important catalyst, but it is only one factor in a market that trades continuously and reacts to a wide range of signals.

SpaceX’s public-market debut offered investors a fresh example of how a major technology offering can alter sentiment. The arrival of a well-known company on public exchanges can attract substantial attention from institutional investors, retail traders and the financial media. It can also encourage speculation about valuations across adjacent sectors, particularly when the company is associated with artificial intelligence, aerospace, advanced computing or other technologies viewed as central to future economic growth.

For bitcoin, the effect is generally indirect. A successful IPO can strengthen confidence in growth-oriented assets by suggesting that investors remain willing to accept risk in pursuit of long-term returns. That optimism can spill into technology stocks, venture-backed companies and cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin may benefit when investors increase exposure to assets considered sensitive to liquidity and sentiment.

The opposite is also possible. If an IPO receives a weak reception, falls below expectations or prompts investors to question valuations in the technology sector, the result could be a broader retreat from risk. Bitcoin, which often trades alongside other volatile assets during periods of changing market sentiment, could then face selling pressure even though the company going public has no direct connection to cryptocurrency.

Anthropic’s prospective listing is attracting interest for similar reasons. The company is one of the most prominent names in artificial intelligence, and its public debut would provide markets with a new reference point for valuing a major private AI business. Investors would likely examine the offering’s valuation, demand, share pricing and early trading performance for clues about whether enthusiasm for AI remains strong or has begun to cool.

Those signals could matter for bitcoin because crypto markets are often influenced by the same broad forces that affect high-growth technology companies. When investors have ample liquidity and confidence in future economic expansion, capital can move toward assets with greater potential returns and greater risk. When conditions tighten, those flows can reverse quickly. A large IPO may amplify either mood, but it does not determine it on its own.

The timing of Anthropic’s offering would also be important. If the listing arrives during a period of rising equity markets and improving risk appetite, investors could interpret it as confirmation that demand for innovation-focused assets remains resilient. If it comes amid market stress, elevated interest rates or a decline in technology valuations, the same event could be treated more cautiously.

Bitcoin’s gain since June also demonstrates why simple cause-and-effect explanations can be misleading. The cryptocurrency’s market is global and trades around the clock, while an IPO begins as a discrete event in the equity market. Price movements may occur before a listing as traders anticipate it, during the offering as investors assess demand and afterward as the market decides whether the initial valuation was justified.

Speculation surrounding Anthropic could therefore influence bitcoin even before any formal transaction takes place. Traders may adjust positions based on expectations of strong demand or a high valuation, while others may use the event as a reason to reduce exposure to volatile assets. The resulting moves could be amplified by derivatives, leverage and thin liquidity during periods of uncertainty.

The broader lesson from the SpaceX example is that major corporate listings can contribute to the market narrative without fully explaining bitcoin’s direction. Bitcoin has continued to rise since June despite a recent slump and more restrictive macroeconomic conditions, suggesting that its performance has been shaped by several overlapping forces rather than by enthusiasm surrounding one company.

For investors, the Anthropic IPO is likely to be treated as a sentiment indicator as much as a standalone corporate event. Its impact on bitcoin will depend on the details of the offering, the reaction of public-equity markets and the economic backdrop in which the shares begin trading. A strong debut could support a broader appetite for risk, while a disappointing one could highlight how quickly confidence can change. Either way, the SpaceX experience suggests that the relationship between landmark IPOs and bitcoin will be significant, but indirect and difficult to isolate.
