MNX Enters Pre-IPO Futures Market for AI Giants, Challenging OKX and Bitget

MNX is entering the increasingly competitive market for private-company trading products with an offering tied to the potential future valuations of major artificial-intelligence firms, including OpenAI, Anthropic and DeepSeek.

The product gives traders a way to take positions on companies that have not yet completed initial public offerings. Rather than buying conventional equity in those businesses, market participants would trade contracts linked to how the companies may be valued in the future. That structure provides exposure to private AI firms while avoiding the need to wait for a public listing, although it also introduces important questions about pricing, liquidity and the legal status of the contracts.

The move places MNX in competition with established cryptocurrency exchanges such as OKX and Bitget, which have also sought to broaden their platforms beyond spot trading and traditional crypto derivatives. Those exchanges have increasingly used derivatives, prediction-style products and other alternative instruments to attract traders looking for exposure to markets that are difficult to access through conventional brokerage accounts.

The appeal of private AI companies is closely tied to the extraordinary growth of the sector. OpenAI has become one of the most prominent names in generative AI through products such as ChatGPT, while Anthropic has built a competing business around its Claude models. DeepSeek, meanwhile, has drawn international attention as another major AI developer. Because these companies remain private, their valuations are generally established through funding rounds, secondary transactions or negotiated private-market deals rather than continuous trading on a public exchange.

That lack of a public market creates both demand and uncertainty. Investors may want to express a view on whether a company’s valuation will rise as it develops new models, expands revenue or attracts additional capital. At the same time, private-company prices can be difficult to verify. A valuation announced during a funding round may reflect the terms of a specific transaction and may not represent what a broad market would pay for the company’s shares.

Products such as the contracts offered by MNX attempt to turn those expectations into tradable positions. A trader who believes a company’s future valuation will increase could seek exposure to an upward move, while another participant could position for a decline. The contracts may therefore resemble a market-based forecast, but they should not automatically be treated as equivalent to owning shares in the underlying company.

The distinction is important. A pre-IPO futures contract does not necessarily give the holder voting rights, dividends, ownership of intellectual property or a guaranteed allocation of shares if the company eventually goes public. Its value depends on the rules governing the product, the reference valuation used by the platform and the ability of traders to enter or exit positions. Those details can significantly affect the risks associated with the instrument.

Liquidity is another central issue. Publicly listed companies can have millions of shares changing hands each day, allowing investors to buy or sell with relatively transparent prices. Private AI companies do not have that same continuous market. If trading activity in a pre-IPO contract is limited, the difference between buying and selling prices may widen, and large orders could influence the market. Traders may also find it difficult to close a position at the price they expect.

The use of futures-style products adds a further layer of complexity. Depending on how the contracts are structured, participants could face leverage, margin requirements and the possibility of losses exceeding the amount initially committed. The final result may also depend on how a platform determines the relevant valuation at settlement. A company’s latest private funding round, a secondary-market transaction or another benchmark could produce different outcomes.

Regulation is likely to remain a major consideration as exchanges develop these offerings. Financial authorities in different jurisdictions may treat contracts linked to private-company valuations differently, particularly when the products resemble securities, derivatives or prediction markets. The regulatory treatment can affect who is permitted to trade, how the contracts are marketed and what disclosures a platform must provide.

For MNX, the offering represents an attempt to connect the fast-moving cryptocurrency trading industry with one of the most closely watched areas of the private capital market. AI companies have attracted enormous attention from venture investors, technology businesses and retail traders, but access to their potential growth has traditionally been restricted. Shares in private firms are usually held by founders, employees and institutional investors, with participation often limited by company rules and securities regulations.

A trading product linked to those companies changes the form of access, but not necessarily the underlying risks. AI valuations can shift sharply in response to technical breakthroughs, new competitors, regulatory decisions, computing costs and changes in investor sentiment. A widely anticipated public offering may also be delayed, restructured or never take place. Even when a company remains successful, its private valuation may not rise in a straight line.

The competition with OKX and Bitget suggests that exchanges see demand for assets and contracts associated with technology trends beyond established cryptocurrencies. Whether the market develops sustainably will depend on transparent pricing, reliable settlement procedures and sufficient participation from buyers and sellers. It will also depend on whether traders understand that exposure to a private-company valuation is not the same as holding an interest in the business itself.

By offering pre-IPO futures tied to OpenAI, Anthropic and DeepSeek, MNX is bringing private AI valuation speculation into a crypto-exchange environment. The initiative gives traders another way to express views on the sector’s most visible companies, while highlighting the unresolved challenges involved in turning opaque private-market valuations into continuously tradable instruments.
